The continuing RTR project strives to add more detail to Rome: Total War than ever before. Going through with a fine tooth-comb, every province researched and edited in detail, this is an experience of playing Rome TW like no other you'll ever have seen.
All the classic features and playstyle are there of course, with the systems from the original game built on and fine-tuned - including loyalty systems, night battles, and maps and battles that retain the key vanilla RTW feel that has made the game engine such a classic. New scripts further tweak the gameplay, adding more turns per year, detailed climate scripting, and more.
Managing your Empire has a huge additional dose of realism to it, as you decide whether to keep provinces as client-states hiring local troops or to assimilate them into your Empire. A redesigned building tree gives you a far trickier set of choices in how you manage your expanding dominions. The clash of cultures between the settled and unsettled peoples of the Roman world is also encapsulated in a "cultures" system built and based on the RTWBI religion feature.
It's not just about detail in the management systems though; it's also a beautifully rendered vision of Rome: Total War with great new attention paid to landscapes and other details. A vast, high detailed campaign map is backed up with new battlefield scenery, including new trees, cliffs, and other items to give much more in depth possibilities when your armies get to the field. Many new units have also been added, opening up new tactical potential in your forces.
